2001 COnstruction boom

When we speak of the ' Chinese Drywall' refers to the sheets of drywall manufactured in China with residues of volcanic ash containing large amount of sulphur. " All this Chinese Drywall was imported from China at the time of the boom of construction in the United States since 2001.

Tests of samples analyzed show that these sheets contain volatile chemicals that have been identified in emissions of sulfurous gases or disulfide of carbon, Carbonyl sulfide, and hydrogen sulfide. These emissions, which have the smell of rotten eggs, the smell became highest with high temperatures and humidity, and this is a chemical process of reaction with hydrogen sulfide. All copper pipes, wiring, antennas and air conditioning are affected, as well as silver jewelry. The owners have to meet a variety of symptoms, including breathing problems such as asthma, chronic cough and shortness of breath attacks, as well as chronic headaches and sinus infections.

Studies done for the Department of health of the State of Florida, found that the smell of 'volatile sulfur compounds' gave Chinese drywall samples when they are exposed to extreme conditions of heat and humidity. We also found that it vapors 'in the residential environment created a corrosive environment in the presence of humidity.'
